Flue-Gas Desulphurization

The process also removes almost all the HCl contained in the flue gas. The calcium carbonate in the limestone reacts with the SO 2 and oxygen from the air to produce gypsum, which precipitates from the solution. The HCl is also dissolved in the water and neutralized, producing a solution of calcium chloride.
